The United States is the last industrialized country to withhold PAID maternity leave for the majority of its population. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) was enacted in 1993, however it only states you will retain your position when you return to work. And you still have to qualify for it by working at least 1250 hours at your current job, among other requirements. I don’t know about you, but maternity leave was stressful enough without having to worry about where my next paycheck was going to come from. That’s why I went searching for ways to earn extra money while you are on maternity leave.
Newborns spend a significant time sleeping and you can take advantage of those times by working on surveys to generate income. I know these three options are legitimate because I have taken surveys using these sites and I am well aware of other people making money through them. You are not limited to one or the other. Sign up for all three of them and start earning some moolah!
Opinion Outpost is a site that helps connect people like you and me with brands who want feedback on their products. Just fill out the simple form and you will receive emails of new surveys available to you. Which is much better than having to check the website several times a day. You receive points and can redeem them for straight up cash or gift cards to popular brands such as Amazon.com and iTunes. On average I have received between 2-7 surveys a day and they typically have a few screener questions beforehand to see if you qualify. So there is a lot of potential to earn a good bit of money. You can cash out with as little as 50 points, which is the equivalent of a $5 Amazon.com e-giftcard.
After signing up with Pinecone Research, you will receive a welcome email with a link to a brief 5-minute questionnaire. It is worth 50 points (so you aren’t doing it for free) and then they indicate you will receive your first full survey, worth 300 points, within the following week. You will earn $3.00 in value for each product evaluation you complete. The points can also be redeemed for cash or prizes.
As far as I can tell, at this point, Opinion Outpost sends out the most emails, but because of the screener questionnaire before filling out the survey I think it balances everyone out. Go ahead and sign up for them all and you will be able to help make extra money on your maternity leave.
Other companies you can earn money from surveys are American Consumer Opinion, Valued Opinion, E-Poll Surveys, The Panel Station, and Survey Junkie.
